by Christmas Holiday Fan

It doesn’t seem possible a year has passed since the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays of 2007. Summer has come and gone. We are now busy making plans for church events, family gatherings, and social activities centered around this festive time for 2008.

The Christmas season or winter holiday season is a season that surrounds the Christmas holiday as well as other holidays during the months of November and December.

The Christmas buying and shopping season is already underway. Friends and family, not to mention you and your family, are making plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Several religious festivals during the Christmas/winter holiday season are celebrated with the exchanges of gifts, and the winter holiday season thus also incorporates the holiday shopping season.

The first Monday after Thanksgiving was named Cyber Monday as the kick-off to the Christmas/winter holiday season for online shopping.

Mondays have been the most popular day for on-line shopping during the holiday shopping season, in contrast to the middle of the week during the rest of the year. They attribute this to people shopping in stores and malls on the weekends.

Online shopping is the process consumers go through to purchase products or services over the Internet. An online shop, online store, or virtual store evokes the physical analogy of buying products or services at a bricks-and-mortar retailer or in a shopping mall. Visit Online Holiday Store!

The advantages of shopping on line are obvious. You save a lot of valuable time and energy. You save on gas. You can have your gifts sent directly to the person if you choose. Not to mention savings on wrapping paper, ribbon, tape, etc. Please Vist Online Holiday Store!

Daly show to make it a memorable Masters

FORMER US PGA and British Open champion John Daly has been given a late invite to next week’s 30th anniversary Australian Masters - but will he remember his one previous visit to Melbourne’s Huntingdale layout?

Daly, who is playing this week’s Hong Kong Open, which is co-sanctioned by the Asian and European tours, contacted Masters organisers at the weekend seeking a start at the tournament.

IMG Australasian vice-president David Rollo said yesterday: “I had no hesitation in giving John a sponsor invite. He is a major winner and will add to our field.”

Daly has expressed an interest in joining the European Tour, which started its 2009 schedule with last week’s Singapore Open, and is looking for a swift start in the Race to Dubai, the Tour’s season-long, $US10 million ($15.5m) competition which concludes with the Dubai World Championship next November.

“I’ve enjoyed all my previous trips to Australia,” Daly said in a statement.

Woods-Obama parallel includes some pitfalls
Racial breakthroughs don’t always bring progress.

Orin Starn

is a cultural anthropology professor at Duke University

It’s not that far-fetched to argue that Tiger Woods’ popularity helped pave the way for Barack Obama’s smashing victory. That legions of golfing white businessmen already idolized Woods may well have made it less of a stretch for them and others to imagine a black man as the country’s president.

For that matter, Woods, much like Obama, presents himself as something of a “post-racial” figure, crossing old color lines by virtue of his mixed ancestry.

But whether or not Woods helped some vote for Obama, the superstar golfer’s effect on his sport offers a cautionary lesson about the effect of an Obama presidency: There’s no necessary correlation between the feel-good symbolism of a racial breakthrough and actual, on-the-ground progress toward a race-blind America.

Many observers predicted that Woods’ example would revolutionize the sociology of golf. They thought many more minority kids would be encouraged to take up the old Scottish pastime, and that the sport would shed its ugly racial past once and for all. (The Professional Golfers’ Association Tour had a Caucasians-only clause until 1961.)

The golf establishment promotes its youth-golf programs with “Kumbaya”-style TV ads showing smiling inner-city kids, as if the game had indeed put the messy matters of race and money in the rearview mirror.

Golf Weight Training Program – Is This Really Prescribed For Golfers?

Many people do not believe that a golf weight training program is or will ever be required for a professional golfer with new golf swing. However, in the recent past, some of the best golfers in world have endorsed this truth. Nonetheless, it is still unachievable when the regular golfer will look forward to his/her golf weight training program.

How Far It Is True That Golf Weight Training Program Improves The Game

The pros and champions of golf are all heavy into golf weight training programs and they swear that it does improve the golf short game. However, as a rule, you should never take anybody at the value of their word unless you have some proof. Hence, there are two other ways to find out the truth about it, (i) take up a regular golf weight training program and check out whether your game really improves, (ii) get in touch with golf experts/pros and ask their opinion and advice.

In fact, many of the pros today are undergoing this type of training and they are happy to see that their games have indeed improved by leap and bounds. Most of the golfers train only with golf specific exercises that focus on the ‘golf muscles’ which have their own merits. Hence, when the body is worked out overall, you will definitely have better results.

Those who regularly work out with golf weight training programs will find that there are much less aches, injuries and ‘bad stretching’ episodes. Since the body becomes rough and tough overall, your stamina improves, your posture improves, your strength improves and the best of all your flexibility improves. All these together contribute vastly to the improvement of the game in general and stamina, posture and swing speed in particular.

Golfers mostly complain of pain and ache in the lower back and mid shoulder regions which are stretched beyond endurance during the golf games and golf backswing. They also have major problems with the hamstrings for the same reason. The swinging of the club requires extreme coordination of body and mind and most of the times, for the person who has not exercised well, the mind tends to leave the body far behind.

Hence, though these types of exercise are not directly prescribed as golf exercises, they can do wonders to the quality of your game, your posture, your endurance and overall body response to your mind’s command.

The Putting Fundamentals That You Must Employ In Your Stroke

To play golf at a high level, the game is about making birdies and not three putting. This means you have to make putts by using putting fundamentals which are typically learned through putting drills. To become a confident putter under pressure, it will take some practice time to work with your putting stroke and putting drills.

The putting drills below are great practice. They will teach you not to move or peek at your putt. This habit typically gets worse as the heat is turned up on your putting stroke. This is when you must rely on your putting fundamentals. In addition, you should also work on creating a repeating routine so when a big putt needs to be holed, the focus is on holing the putt. Use these drills and you will see an improvement in your putting and more importantly your pressure putting.

Putting Drills - KEEP YOUR HEAD STILL
You should hold your head still to keep the putter on path throughout the stroke. There are many ways to do this. You can practice this at home or in a hotel room if your travel. Take your putting stance with your head touching the wall. As you take your stroke you should not be able to feel your head move off of the wall. If you do you have too much motion in your putting stroke. You also can incorporate a friend. While you swing your putter back and through freely have your friend hold your head still. This also provides instant feedback. After the ball is gone, look at the spot where the ball was and slowly count to three and listen for the ball to fall into the putting cup. Although counting to three will seem like an eternity, this is key to become a good putter under pressure.

Putting Drills - EYES CLOSED
After you line up a short two to three foot putt, simply close your eyes. Closing your eyes will encourage you to really feel the movement of your arms. You will find that the slower your arms move, the more consistent you will putt. In addition, you will become much better at your distance control .

Putting Drills - STABLE BASE
This drill will help you keep your lower body in place during the putting stroke. First, take your putting stance and then wedge a rubber ball between your knees. You will need to squeeze the ball slightly to create a solid foundation and not to let the ball drop. You will develop the feeling of stability which is a fundamental of a consistent stroke by rolling putts this way.

Using these putting drills will teach you the putting fundamentals that you will need to make a good stroke. No matter what skill level that you currently have, implementing these drills will allow you to make a better putting stroke that will put the golf ball on the correct line and will lead to holing more putts and lowering your scores.

Why Use A Golf Training Tool?

I never thought of using a golf training tool before today – not consciously anyway. I have however, used a golf tee to clean the dirt clods from my golf shoes. And I do at every opportunity use that fancy golf ball cleaner with the pump. In fact I regularly polish my golf balls with the handy towel that comes with the ball cleaning station.

This isn’t the kind of golf training tool that most adept golfers would think of. The point here is that most golfers start out as ‘hacks’; learning to play a quality golf short game comes only later when some urging force comes into play. The new golf swing might be a competitive nature, need for good exercise or a desire to gain mastery over something in life.

What Is A Golf Training Tool?

I suppose you might say a golf training tool is anything physical or mechanical that teaches or attempts to improve the golf game or golfing experience. That would then have to include my cell phone. I play golf on it while I wait for my wife at the market.

Video training tapes are great golf training tools, but still are no replacement for actual hands-on experience. Many golf training tools combine a club or monitor or glove with a training video and instruction manual. Make use of them as best you can.

Call The Pro

I am a strange amalgam of independent trailblazer and traditionalist. I highly recommend you go for it whenever the urge comes on. Do thirty-six holes in a day if you think you might survive it. Fly to New Zealand for a day of golf – go ahead! I’ll also tell you to take a guide, talk to the pro – get a guru! Do your research and find the best you can find.

The best golf training tool for better golf grip might also be a friendly teacher that will spend the necessary personal time with you to move you forward toward your personal goal in a timely manner. This first requires setting a practical goal. It will also probably require having patience and then the fitness word comes in to plays its part – some exercise is also required. Fitness will allow you to utilize the golf training tools in a more efficient manner. Determined effort needs momentum and that is built over time. Make a start and move forward slowly and steadily.

Will An Artificial Putting Green Help Your Game?

When thinking about installing an artificial putting green several questions come up. You need to choose the type of fake grass, the installation method, and as with all big projects you are probably asking yourself if it will actually help your golf game. This article will take a look at these questions and so you make some better decisions.

The first question that should be addressed is whether an artificial putting green will help your golf game. Part of the reason this question comes up so often is that fake grass has a different roll than real grass and the absolute truth is that if you have access to a real bent grass golf green everyday and during all seasons, then it would be better to be out on real grass.

The problem is that most of us do not have this access. This can be due to severe weather extremes that make real grass ungrowable or dormant most of the year, leaving the golf season short. And many golfers do not have the time or money to devote to going to their local course every time they would like to practice.

For this reason, having an artificial putting green in your backyard can be a great boost to your game because you have access year round. You can train in the off season, so to speak, and be ready to kick some butt by the time spring rolls back around. Natural grass does not allow for this, either at home or on the local course.

And even though, golf ball speed may be different on fake turf versus real grass, that is true for all golf courses and weather conditions. Golf in Scotland will be different than Florida and wet and dry conditions will require you to adjust your game. This means that no matter where you practice and play, you will constantly be playing under different conditions.

The practice that will benefit you most is perfecting the mechanics of your swing. An artificial putting green allows you to practice and find your true swing in the convenience of your backyard.

As to the material you will want to use and how to install the putting green, it is recommended to speak with your local suppliers and visit the PGA’s site to peruse the putting green standards.

When it comes to installing your green, there are many places that offer detailed instructions, but the basics are as follows. Kill all vegetation around the future putting green area. You will need to decide on the contours and golf ball cup locations of the area and support the area with a sub-base of compacted stone. Then cover with artificial turf, secure outer edges, and install the cups.

As you can see, an artificial putting green definitely has its place for serious golfers and weekend warriors alike. Enjoy your new private green and impress your friends with your improved short game.

James provides information about the types of artificial putting green through his putting green website.

A Quick Fix For Your Chipping

As we all have had our troubles with chipping the golf ball, some golfers are literally scared to hit a chip shot. These players do not discriminate and have usually hit all of the bad shots that you can hit such as a Skull, where the ball flies way over the green or a Chili Dip, where the golf ball will hardly move at all.

Luckily, no matter anybody’s past, you can become a confident chipper in a short amount of time with the correct fundamentals. With the correct fundamentals, anyone can start hitting chip shots like a pro in no time!

All amateurs can look like a pro prior to the golf shot as address and set up are the two areas that you can make sure that you have correct before you start the stroke.

In chipping, hand or wrist action is not wanted. With this being said, it is very important that you understand that you must have a flat left wrist and a bent right wrist at impact. The good news is that you can pre-set this position before you even swing the golf club. Take a golf club and place your golf grip on it. Just look at your hands until you understand how the position of your wrists looks and works. Once you can see as well as understand that you need a flat left wrist and a bent right wrist, you now want to take your address and setup position.

In the chipping address position, keep your shoulders square to the target line, narrow your stance and place the ball just behind the center of your stance. You will then lean your body and club shaft toward the target until you have 70 percent of your weight on the target side. By leaning the weight forward, you increase the angle of attack. This makes it virtually impossible to hit the chip shot fat!

Now it’s time to make the chipping stroke. We will be using a motion for this shot that is similar to our putting stroke. Simply move the club back until the butt end of the club reaches the middle of your right thigh. It is imperative that you do not shift your weight during the stroke. Your weight stays forward throughout the entire stroke. In addition, keep shaft leaning towards the target through impact. Once in the finish position, hold this position for a slow count of three. This will give you the time to check if your flat left wrist and a bent right wrist is still in tact.

After working with many levels of players who have had many chipping difficulties, these fundamentals have worked for many, many players. Using this chipping method in giving one on one lessons and in teaching many golf schools, I have seen the quickest turn-arounds for players of any handicap who are struggling with their chipping. Using these fundamentals, you will lose all fear of chipping. Who knows, you may even make a couple!
